Why PNG for PDF pages

PNG is lossless, so text, thin lines and flat colours stay exactly as sharp as in the PDF. It is the better choice for documents, charts and slides. For pages that are mostly photos, PDF to JPG produces much smaller files.

How your files stay private

Most free converters upload your file, process it on their server and send the result back - so a copy of it passes through somebody else's machine. This page does all of the work in your browser instead. The files you choose are read into memory on your own device, processed there and handed back as a download; none of their contents is transmitted. You can switch off Wi-Fi after the page has loaded and it keeps working.

Frequently asked questions

Are the PNGs transparent?

Pages are rendered on a white background, the way they look when printed. Most PDFs have a white page anyway.

How large will the PNG files be?

A text page at 150 DPI is typically 100-300 KB; at 300 DPI, about four times that. Pages with photos are larger - use JPG for those.

Does it work with password-protected PDFs?

PDFs that need a password to open are not supported - remove the password first in the app you use to open it. PDFs that only restrict editing usually work.

Is my PDF uploaded?

No. The PDF is opened and processed by your browser on your own device. Its contents are never sent anywhere - you can disconnect from the internet after the page loads and it keeps working.
